Incorporating the use of Web 2.0 technologies into the classroom can be beneficial to students as it is relevant to how they learn and is engaging, often times increasing student learning opportunities. In designing a two week ELA unit with Literature Circles, I incorporated the use of Twitter to promote the use of the internet and a variety of reading and writing opportunities. The project consists of resources and lesson plans (links below) that can be modified for a variety of grade levels. Resources include:
PowerPoint with an overview of the 2-week unit
2-week unit plans
Book Summary Handout - Literature Circles
Literature Circle Roles/Planning Sheets
Vocabulary Support Sheet
Daily Reflection Sheet
Twitter Directions Handout
Character Map and Character Trait Handouts
Final Project Options
Final Project Rubrics
Also, follow my personal Twitter to see how it was used and modeled with a picture book, and what I learned from using the microblogging service (follow me @kmmankow)
Teaching with Web 2.0 technologies can be fun! It is our job as teachers to incorporate the use of the internet into our teaching strategies:)
